Before the cards are dealt, players must post a small blind and big blind. These blinds are forced bets that give players something to chase if they lose their chips before the cards are dealt. They also help keep the pot a higher size so that players can bet more chips in less time.
When the cards are dealt, the dealer shuffles the deck and deals each hand one at a time. Each player to the left of the dealer receives two cards and must choose whether or not to ‘hit’ (bet),’stay’ or ‘double up’.
Once the cards are dealt, betting begins in clockwise order. The first player to the left of the dealer bets and the action continues until all players have had a chance to bet. The player with the highest hand wins the pot if their hand does not fold.

Once the betting is complete, the dealer puts a fifth card on the board. This is called the ‘river’ and it is then dealt to all players. The river cards are then exposed and the player with the highest ranked hand wins the pot.
